Currently, I am a First grade teacher in Yadkin County. Back in December I graduated from East Carolina and started my first job in December. This year I am back at the same school in the same grade. School started on Monday this year, and we also go to school 30 minutes longer. This has proven to be a long day for the kids and teachers. It is going to be a big adjustment for us. Since we don't get out of school until 3 my time in the classroom after school flies by. If we have a meeting it goes by even faster. This year I have been blessed with 22 students that have amazing potential, a delightful mentor, and a very helpful assistant!
On Monday I was so excited about the first day of school (and nervous too). Of course everyone arrived at the same time and they all had their hands full with all of their supplies! My classroom was filled with enough supplies to last a long time! The students recognized their friends from Kindergarten and were so excited to be at school! Overall the kids have been pretty great this week. They are a little talkative, and we are still working on routines and procedures but it's only the first week of school. I'm trying to figure out how I want everything to flow and they are hanging with me pretty well. I need to work on my patience, and I have to remember that they are only 6 years old :)
Throughout the week I had a few crazy things happen to me. First of all, one of my students accidentally spilled tea all over my desk, my favorite necklace broke, I left my cell phone in the refrigerator, and I was overwhelmed with all the items on my (ever growing) to-do list that seemed impossible with all of the meetings and other work I had to do. That was all in one day. The next day was going better, until after school. I just wanted to go get some ice cream at a gas station before I went to the funeral home. When I went to check out, my debit card was declined. I looked up my account online to find that there was a negative balance in my account. So I transferred money and then looked at my statement. Over $80 worth of charges had been made from some company in London. So the next day I had my card cancelled and a new one sent out. It was just one bad thing after another this week and I tried my best not to take it out on my students. Hopefully next week will be a lot better.
All of this craziness reminded me of one of my favorite verses:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
I hope you all have a great weekend, and come back to visit my blog soon!
