The last few months have been a real struggle for me. I feel like I am always fighting something, whether it be my health, school, or something else. It has really worn me down at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything because I have learned so much through these struggles. Like it says in 2 Corinthians 4:17, Our troubles are small. They last only for a short time. But they are earning for us a glory that will last forever. It is greater than our troubles.
During all these crazy seasons, sometimes we just have to remember to be still and listen for God's voice. His words fill us with life, peace, joy, and hope. We all need to step back a second, and ask ourselves if God is our first love. He needs to be our highest priority, and I know sometimes he isn't mine. I'll want to do things my way, but it should always be God's way. This is easy to hear, but hard to learn. When we live in His presence, the world around us is brightened by His glory (2 Cor 4:6).
In some seasons of our lives, we have one big problem that haunts us. Something that just consumes all of our thoughts. When you have a problem that is persistently bugging you, view it as a great opportunity. Recently, I have heard it compared to a tutor that is always by your side. If we are willing to learn in these situations, the possibilities are endless. First off, we need to thank God for our problem. Ask Him to open your eyes through the situation and see what He wants you to learn. If we are thankful for our problems, then they lose the power to bring us down. We need to listen to Proverbs 16:3, Commit to the Lord everything you do. Then your plans will succeed. Another scripture that applies here would be Matthew 6:33, But put God's kingdom first. Do what he wants you to do. Then all of those things will also be given to you. The problem eventually will become less significant.
Often I think I have completely given away my problems, then the next week (or the next day even) it comes back. We have to turn all control of the situation over to God. He is the one in control, not us. I always have to remind myself of that. I know my roommate Casey has probably told me that a million times. :) Just remember Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
These are just some of the many thoughts I have floating around in my head. I hope to blog some more over break, but I'm not making any promises.
If any of you guys are looking for a good daily devotion book, I highly recommend Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young. I came across this book this summer, and have really enjoyed it. I cannot tell you how many times the devotion for the dated day, has been exactly what I needed to hear. It's such a God-thing.
Anyways, I hope you all are staying warm! Have a Merry Christmas :)
